There are days when I’m tired and can’t be bothered to go into the studio to create anything major. When the thought of pulling out all my paints and brushes and papers seems like a mountain to climb. When all I want to do is sit on my backside in front of the TV and binge.
This is when I pull out my mobile/ lap art supplies. It’s a basket of mixed-media material that are quick and easy to get my creative groove on. Graphite, soft pastels, oil pastels, inks and maybe some black and white paint. And small pieces of paper or my favourite small square sketch pad from Pink Pig. And before I know it, I’m no longer tired but energised and in the flow mixing colours and texture and lines and in love again with making, in love again with life.
I take inspiration from the material and my internal landscape, rather than anything external during these tired times. These mixed-media pieces are a reflection of this turbulence; the switch from exhaustion to exuberance. These lap art supplies bring me back to me every time.
